We had a wonderful afternoon yesterday in the vestry of Christ Church, Prospect Road in Southborough, when over fifty guests joined us to celebrate the launch of my book Southborough War Memorial. It was really touching to see family members of those named on the Memorial, together with friends and neighbours, coming together in a spirit of warmth and friendliness to honour those lost years ago. It was a beautifully warm, bright Indian summer day, and we tucked into a high tea of sandwiches, Cherry Genoa cake, and cups of tea or a glass of wine (for those with more Bohemian tastes!). The Mayor of Southborough Colin Bothwell and his family kindly joined us too, even though he'd already been to an event in his official capacity earlier in the day in another part of Kent. My husband, son and his girlfriend all did fantastic sterling work in helping host the event. Thanks to everyone for making the effort to be with us for a really satisfying and memorable occasion.
